A judicial source said Wednesday after the lifting of reporting restrictions, Benjamin Mandy, the French national team defender of Manchester City, the English Premier League, was charged with new rape.
A 27-year-old girl has filed a new complaint against Mandi, who is charged with eight counts of rape, one count of rape and one count of rape involving seven women complainants.
The 27-year-old City full-back, who won the World Cup with Russia’s Rooster, was acquitted last month of his previous charges.
The media was barred from reporting the new indictment, but Judge Stephen Ortt lifted the restriction during a Chester Crown trial in the north-west of England on Wednesday.
Mandy’s 10 charges relate to events that apparently occurred between October 2018 and August 2021 at his home in Prestbury, Cheshire.
Mandy will appear before a jury on July 25 with fellow defendant Luis Saha Matori, 40, who also pleaded not guilty and denied eight counts of rape and four counts of rape of eight young women.
Mandy, the world champion with the “Rooster” team in 2018, was released in early January and remained under judicial supervision until his trial.
Mandy joined City in 2017 for € 60 million, after attracting attention in Marseille and playing a season in Monaco, making him the most expensive defender in history at the time. He has played 75 games for the English champions in the last two seasons, but has suffered a series of setbacks and a number of injuries.
The full-back played 10 games for the French national team, the last of which was in November 2019.
