“In 2025, during the period of validity of this State Budget, the Government will not impose any reduction in commercial advertising in RTP schedules.” The General State Budget for 2025 will reflect a single sentence that there will be no cuts in advertising. The proposal came from the Left Bloc and the entire opposition voted in favor. Only the two parties that support the Government, PSD and CDS, voted against this measure.
In this way, the Government’s intention to cut the six minutes per hour on channel 1 of RTP advertising until 2027, at a rate of two minutes per year, falls by the wayside.
In the explanatory note, the Block indicated that “the Government must guarantee the necessary investment in RTP, both in television and radio, to overcome its chronic lack of financing. Only in this way is it possible for RTP to guarantee reference standards for the media in Portugal, fulfill its regulatory function and have its own production capacity. Until this chronic underfunding is overcome, the Government should not impose any advertising cuts on RTP.”
