Several explosions shook the Ukrainian capital

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in the early hours of Sunday morning, several explosions shook the Ukrainian capital as Ukrainian forces tried to “regain full control” of the city of Sorodontsk.

“Several explosions took place in the Darnitsky and Dnipro districts of the capital,” Klitschko wrote in the Telegram messenger program. Services are currently active on the site.

The alarm sounded in most parts of Ukraine, including the Kyiv region.

In this regard, Alexander Steryuk, mayor of Sorodontsk, the main city in eastern Ukraine, announced that Ukrainian forces were trying to “regain full control” of the city.

“Russian forces have ‘succeeded’ and ‘were able to enter the city and split a large part of it into two parts, but our troops have been able to re-establish themselves and build a line of defense.’ They are doing everything possible to restore full control of Ukraine over the City.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has previously confirmed that Ukrainian troops are withdrawing from Sorodontsk after “suffering heavy casualties during the fighting” in the neighboring town of Lyceum.

“The situation is very difficult.”

“Our armed forces are confident that they will succeed” in regaining control of the city, he added.

The Ukrainian military, for its part, said “the battle for full control of Sorodontsk continues.”

The stated goal of the Russian forces is to control the entire Donbas basin, which includes the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, after part of it was occupied in 2014 by pro-Moscow separatists.
