Ryanair scolded South African passengers for the racist request

Irish airline Ryanair reprimanded South African passengers by forcing them to try information in Afrikaans during apartheid.

Some have described the move as “racist”, especially since there are 11 official languages in South Africa today, and many say they do not understand the “Afrikaan” language imposed during white minority rule.

In a statement, “Ryan Air” justified the use of this test by wanting to block those trying to travel with fake passports to South Africa, saying, “Because of the large number of fake passports in South Africa, we ask passengers to travel. The UK will answer the written questionnaire in Afrikaans ”.

“Passengers who fail to answer the questionnaire will be barred from traveling and the full price of their tickets will be refunded,” the statement said.

Reported to be flawed in spelling and grammatical errors, the exam included questions such as what is South Africa’s dialing code, where is the country’s capital, and who is the current president of South Africa.

Konrad Steenkamp, head of the South African Afrikaans Language Council, called the move “nonsense”, saying it undermined any attempt to beautify the image of the language.
