The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the first report of the Permanent International Commission of Inquiry prepared by the Human Rights Council and its results, praising the “independence of the committee headed by Navi Pillay and its efforts to implement and complete the report.”

A Foreign Ministry statement said: “The committee’s report confirms beyond doubt that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and discrimination against Palestinians are the root causes of the recurring tension, instability and protracted conflict in the region,” noting that “the report examines all forms of Israeli violations ( whether committed by occupying forces or settler militias, as well as the unjust siege of the Gaza Strip), which rise to the level of war crimes and crimes against humanity as factors leading to the repetition of continuous cycles of violence.

The ministry also welcomed “recommendations calling for the occupying power to be held accountable for its violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in a manner that ends the Israeli entity’s impunity and compels it to comply with its obligations.” as a military occupying power on Palestinian soil, including an end to human rights violations.” And his emphasis on Security Council resolutions and the importance of their implementation as a basis for ending the Israeli escalation and ending the occupation and historical injustice that has befallen the Palestinian people so that they can exercise their right to self-determination.

The report will be presented at the 50th session of the Human Rights Council on 13 June.

The Commission of Inquiry, mandated by the United Nations Human Rights Council, accused “Israeli authorities of creating instability in the Occupied Palestinian Territories” and stressed that “Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories and discrimination against the Palestinian population are the main causes of the recurring wave of violence and instability.”

In its first report, the Committee emphasized that “an end to the Israeli occupation of the territories, in full accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council, remains crucial to stopping the ongoing wave of violence.”
