A shooting at the Columbia Machine factory in Smithsburg, Maryland, left at least three dead and one critically injured on Friday. After saying that the gunman no longer “posed a threat to the community,” authorities revealed that the same was injured in an exchange of fire with a state trooper – The agent suffered minor injuries and the assailant was arrested.
According to NBC Washington, Sgt. Carly Hose, a spokeswoman for Washington County law enforcement, only confirmed that he was a male suspect, without further details about his identity or health status. So far, the authorities they also do not know the motive for the attack and have no information on the type of weapon used in the shooting.
Although the shooter was controlled, the authorities urged that no one go to the scene. “We are monitoring a mass shooting in Smithsburg right now and our office is in contact with the authorities on the ground. If you live in this area, please stay away while police respond to the incident,” Democratic Congressman David Trone wrote on Twitter.

More than a dozen police officers were at the scene of the shooting, SNBC13 reported, and the closure of nearby establishments was declared.
The shooting took place just a few miles from Camp David, the vacation home of US presidents. NBC says officials have ruled out a possible link between proximity to the presidential residence and the shooting.
