South Korean Defense Minister Lee Jong Sob and his US and Japanese counterparts Lloyd Austin and Nobu Kishi have reached an agreement to intensify cooperation to counter the missile “threat” from North Korea, the South Korean Defense Ministry said. As part of the annual Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, the meeting was held face-to-face and was the first for defense ministers since their last meeting in November 2019 following a series of North Korean ballistic missile launches.

“They agreed to conduct missile attack warning exercises between South Korea, the United States and Japan, and to search and track ballistic missiles,” the statement said.

It should be noted that the three sides conducted missile warning and tracking exercises every three months and every two consecutive years or at irregular intervals.
