“I do not blame them”. In the first interview since she was convicted of libel in the case she disputed with Johnny Depp, Amber Heard revealed that she does not “blame” the jury for siding with her ex-husband, given the testimony that emerged in court, and also criticized coverage and judgment surrounding the entire case on social media.
“I don’t care what you think of me, what judgments you want to make about what goes on in the privacy of my home and my marriage. I don’t assume that ordinary people have to do these things, and I don’t take them seriously. But even those who are sure I deserve this hate, even if they think I’m lying, can’t look me in the eye and say they think there was fair representation on social media. You can’t tell me you think this was fair,” Amber Heard said.
The actress also said that she understands the jury’s position and verdict, given the testimony heard in court. “They sat there and listened for three weeks to relentless testimony. (…) I do not blame them. He is a beloved character and people feel that he knows him. He’s a fantastic actor,” she said of Depp, in an excerpt from an interview she gave on NBC’s “Today” show, airing this Friday, June 17.
The jury in the case that pitted Amber Heard against Johnny Depp convicted both actors of defamation. Amber Heard was sentenced to pay fifteen million dollars (14.1 million euros), while the actor must pay compensation of two million dollars (1.87 million euros).
