Former US Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday criticized the Biden administration’s talks with Iran aimed at reaching a nuclear deal.
“President Biden and his government are now threatening to thwart all the progress we have made in marginalizing the dictatorial regime in Tehran,” Pence told thousands of members of the opposition MEK who are visiting Albania. they do”.
He added: “We call on the Biden government to immediately withdraw from the nuclear talks with Tehran.”
It is worth noting that the administration of former Republican President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and tightened sanctions against Tehran.
The MEK has in the past won the support of conservative Republicans, including figures such as John Bolton, a former US national security adviser, and Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives.
It is worth noting that in April 2021, the Biden administration began a new round of talks with Iran in Vienna aimed at returning the United States to the nuclear deal, but negotiations stalled in March.
The 2015 agreement, formally known as the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan, allowed the lifting of sanctions against Iran in exchange for restrictions on its plan to ensure non-proliferation, something Tehran has always refused to do.
But in 2018, the United States pulled out of the Trump deal and re-imposed tough economic sanctions on Tehran, while Iran withdrew all its commitments.
