A “new European Union” … and Britain is part of it !?

European countries seem to be forming a new European political group, which includes countries that want to join the EU, those that do not want to, and even countries that have left the EU.

The French presidency announced on Sunday that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was “very enthusiastic” about France’s proposed project to create a European political group that would allow Britain to “re-engage” with Europe after the election. , Expressed.

According to the news, Johnson’s enthusiasm for the project arose after a meeting between Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Bavaria, Germany.

According to AFP, the Elysee Palace said Macron felt that Johnson had shown “great enthusiasm” when talking about a European political group that would allow Britain to “re-engage” with Europe.

During a conversation between the two men, Johnson told Macron that “the idea came to him in 2016,” to which the French president joked that he would grant him “intellectual property rights.”

“This is extraordinary. It makes possible an intergovernmental approach in which we will be involved again with Britain and the Western Balkans,” Elysee was quoted as saying by AFP.

Elysee noted that Johnson “wants to have (an atmosphere) that can open a debate outside the EU.”

He added: “The first meeting of the European political group at the level of heads of state and government will be held in the second half of this year under the Czech presidency of the European Union.”

According to AFP, Macron presented the project of creating a “new European group” in the European Parliament on May 9, amid discussions on accepting Ukraine’s accession to the European Union in view of Russia’s military operations in the country.

The project mainly targets countries hoping to join the European Union, mainly Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, as well as the Western Balkans, which have been waiting for years to join, such as Serbia and northern Macedonia.

According to the French agency, the project also seeks to attract European countries that do not want to join the union, such as Switzerland, Norway or even the United Kingdom, which left during what became known as Bergzeit.
