The journal Nature Communications reported: “Researchers have estimated that about 1.81 billion people live in areas at risk of flooding. The magazine notes that most of these areas are located in South and East Asia.

She pointed out that “researchers have used hydrographic, climate and economic models to study regions of the Earth, which include the 188 Member States of the United Nations, that may be prone to major and severe flooding. The researchers also wanted to estimate the economic impact on the Earth’s population and economy. The results of the calculations carried out by the researchers showed that 23 percent (1.81 billion) of the Earth’s population lives in areas at risk of severe flooding from a country of income.

The researchers note that these regions are unevenly distributed on the world map. Most of these countries are located in South and East Asia, including China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia. And that small areas in North America and Australia are at risk of major flooding.
