An Austrian tourist died of his injuries after being attacked by a shark at Egypt’s Ghorghada resort on Friday, while video footage shows the terrifying moments he experienced during the attack.
English newspaper “Daily Mail” wrote: A 68-year-old retired woman was swimming on the beach of Sahl Hasheesh Bay in the Red Sea when a shark attacked her.
The Russian news agency Ryanovsti quoted local reports as saying that the shark bit the woman’s hand and one of her legs.
Video clips showed the victim’s horrified moments as she screamed for help as the water around her turned red from the blood she had lost.
According to this English newspaper, some people who were present at the scene tried to help him by screaming to distract the shark, but none of them risked their lives and jumped to save him. According to this English newspaper, there was no rescue team.
He eventually miraculously made it to shore and received immediate medical attention, but still died in the ambulance of shock and most likely a heart attack.
This newspaper stated that the authorities closed the nearby beaches for three days due to the incident, adding: The victim is married to an Egyptian man and lives in this country.
Shark attacks are relatively rare in Egypt, but the Red Sea has over 44 species of fish, some of which can be deadly.
The most common are the gray reef sharks, which are about 2 meters long and have sharp teeth, and are usually active in shallow waters of about 60 meters or less.
