Suspected Of Killing Former Japanese Prime Minister ‘Dissatisfied’ With Shinzo Abe Due To His Mother’s Financial Ruin

Tetsuya Yamagami is named as the man who killed the former Japanese Prime Minister. He would be “dissatisfied” with Shinzo Abe and “wanted to kill him”, but why? The 41-year-old suspect believed Japan’s former leader had ties to a religious group, which he believes was to blame for his mother’s financial ruin.

“My mother got involved in a religious group and upset me,” the suspect said, according to Japanese media, citing sources linked to the Shinzo Abe murder investigation, Reuters revealed. The name of the organization that Shinzo Abe is linked to has not yet been revealed.

The main suspect in the death of the former Japanese prime minister was described by neighbors as a lonely person. A 69-year-old woman who lived in the apartment below the suspect’s apartment told Reuters she saw Tetsuya Yamagami three days before the murder, but the suspect ignored her. “He seemed nervous (…) It was as if I were invisible. He felt that something was bothering him.”He explained.

Tetsuya Yamagami used to work in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, but would now be unemployed. Suspected of having shot at the former Japanese prime minister, the man would have in his possession a homemade weapon wrapped in black tape and 40 centimeters long.

According to Reuters, police said on Saturday that the man had spent months planning the attack and would have considered using a bomb before choosing to use a weapon. The suspect would have previously manufactured more weapons using steel tubes and parts that he bought online..

Shinzo Abe, former Japanese prime minister, died this Friday after being shot during a rally of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) ahead of the parliamentary elections on July 10. Tetsuya Yamagami is the main suspect in the attack.
