The EU disavows Lithuania and forces some goods to move from Russia to Kaliningrad

The European Union overruled Lithuanian authorities by announcing on Wednesday that it is not seeking to block the transport of EU-sanctioned goods by rail from Russia to the enclave of Kaliningrad, reports the Financial Times.

Although goods traded from the European Union to Russia remain subject to sanctions, goods such as steel or cement (which Lithuania had banned from transport) could be transported by train from Russia to Kaliningrad.

However, the transport of some goods, such as technological goods, remains prohibited regardless of the means.

Lithuania imposed a partial blockade on rail transport of certain goods, angering Moscow, which has vowed to retaliate.
