A cargo plane crashed in northern Greece on Saturday, the Athens News reported. According to the agency, quoted by France Presse (AFP), witnesses saw the plane on fire and heard explosions.
The local press affirms that the plane served as a link between Serbia and Jordan and had just requested an emergency landing permit at the Greek airport of Kavala, but was unable to carry out the maneuver on time.
State television ERT reported that it was a Ukrainian Antonov and that, according to testimonies from local residents, the plane was on fire before the accident.
AFP says that, according to the authorities, fifteen firefighters attended the scene with seven fire-fighting vehicles.
