As creative and competent as the technicians responsible for Lucid Motors may be, setting up a factory from scratch and designing the first vehicle for another especially complex sedan like the Air, which is the most powerful and luxurious on the market, is not an easy task for a constructor who takes the first steps. That is why problems arise and difficulties accumulate, which do not facilitate the achievement of the long-awaited increase in production that will allow Lucid Air to be delivered to the customers who are waiting for it.
After suspension defects delayed the manufacture of the brand’s device, at the beginning of 2022, now the batteries are turning gray hair on those responsible for the young constructor. According to the local press, in the last four months it was necessary to call the Arizona fire department twice, near Casa Grande, where the factory is located.
Business Insider reported on the issue, based on reports it obtained from the fire department. Apparently, both incidents involved batteries that caught fire and had to be submerged in a tank of water, the only way to extinguish the fire quickly and effectively.
The first case occurred in mid-March. A battery started smoking and then burning, in yet another example of thermal exhaust. When firefighters arrived at the scene, he had already submerged to put out the fire. According to the report, only one person suffered burns that warranted a trip to the hospital.
The second case occurred at the end of June, under similar conditions, and also this time, when the firefighters attended the incident, the battery was already submerged in the tank, but only partially. Perhaps for this reason, the emission of smoke was greater, which caused the hospitalization of four brand employees due to respiratory problems caused by smoke inhalation.
