The Sri Lankan Parliament has announced the names of the candidates for the presidential elections scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, through a parliamentary vote.

Parliament stated: “The candidates are the incumbent Prime Minister and Acting President of the ruling coalition, Ranil Wickremesinghe, MP from the main opposition bloc from the ruling party and Communications Minister in the previous administration, Dulas Alhapiroma, and the National Power People’s Coalition, Anura Kamara Desnayake.

The representatives formally named the three candidates during a meeting that lasted less than 10 minutes in a heavily guarded parliament building.

On July 9, demonstrators seized the official residence of President Gotabay Rajapaksa and the residence of the Prime Minister as the protests reached the 100th day since the deterioration of living conditions in the country. On the 13th of this month, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country and formally resigned a few days later.
