China’s Defense Ministry on Wednesday accused the United States of trying to destroy peace in the Taiwan Strait region.
Beijing – Sputnik. In a statement about the passage of the American destroyer USS Penfold through the Taiwan Strait, Shi Yi, spokesman for the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Command, said that the United States is the main peace destroyer in the Taiwan Strait area.
“The continued provocations and proposals of the United States fully demonstrate that they are destructive to peace and stability and a threat to security in the Taiwan Strait,” the statement added.
In this statement, it is emphasized that the command forces of the Eastern Military Region of the Chinese Army are on constant alert to protect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that Chinese forces followed and monitored the American destroyer while passing through the strait.
The issue of the island of Taiwan is a point of tension between China and the United States due to China’s efforts to provoke the Chinese leadership in Beijing by engaging with Taiwan in several activities and sending delegations from the US Congress to the island.
