Sergei Smagin, vice president of the Russian Chess Federation, told Bazza that the robot appeared to jump quickly after grabbing one of the boy’s chess pieces, adding that the boy responded instead of waiting for the machine to complete its move. chose fast.
And there are certain safety rules that the child appears to have violated when doing this step, Smagin says, that he “didn’t know he had to wait first.”
While Lazarev said, “The child made a move and then the robot had to give time to respond, the boy rushed to be caught by the robot,” noting that in both cases, the robot’s creators should “think again.” .
“Baza” channel revealed the boy’s name, Christopher, and said that he is among the 30 chess players in the Russian capital under the age of 9.
“People rushed to help and pulled the little player’s finger,” he continued, “but he was already broken.”
Lazarev told TASS that Christopher, whose finger was in a cast, did not appear to be in shock from the attack.
However, her parents are said to have contacted the prosecutor’s office. “We will communicate (with them) and try to help in any way we can,” he said, according to the Guardian newspaper.
Smagin explained that the robot is designed to run multiple matches at once, and on the day it met Christopher, it had already run 3 matches.
He stated that the accident was undoubtedly due to “flaws in the program or something” and added: “This has never happened before, such incidents do happen. I wish the boy good health.”
According to the Guardian, Christopher may have been lucky as robots became more sophisticated, models capable of not only movement, but active interaction with humans.
According to a 2015 study, one person is killed annually by an industrial robot in the United States alone.
Widely regarded as the first victim of intelligent cars, Robert Williams was crushed by the arm of a one-ton robot on a Ford production line in Michigan in 1979.
And in 2015, a robot killed a 22-year-old contractor at a Volkswagen factory in Germany by crushing him on a sheet metal.
Robots used in medical surgeries also caused 144 deaths between 2008 and 2013.
In 2018, Elaine Herzberg was killed by a self-driving Uber that hit the 49-year-old while crossing the road in Tempe, Arizona at 40 mph.
