Fact check. Does the video show Dutch firefighters in solidarity with the farmers’ protest in the country?

A TikTok video is being shared on Facebook which it claims is a record of Dutch rescuers’ solidarity with farmers in the country.

In early July, farmers in the Netherlands publicly spoke out against the country’s government’s plans to reduce nitrogen emissions by 50% by 2030. they translate into the use of less fertilizers and the reduction of the number of animals, which will lead to the closure of some farms in the country.

To set the agenda and warn of the impact of the measures in the sector, the peasants blocked highways, supermarkets and distribution centers, and on one night there was even a need for police intervention.

And what do the Dutch firefighters have to do with this protest? According to the posts that went viral, they were associated with the peasant protests, but this is not true. Neither the firefighters are Dutch nor is this a farmers’ protest.

fake post on facebook

This is a video recorded in the Polandat a charity event. It would be enough to look at the inscription “straz”, on the back of the shirts, to understand the nationality of the rescuers in the images. The video, by TikTok user Daniel998dxdx, is still available online and it’s clear from the caption that it was recorded completely unrelated to the farmers’ protests: “Night walk by Maja rescuers.”

The event, organized by Polish firefighters, takes place annually in the city of Podkarpacie and aims to raise funds to support those who need it most. In this year’s edition, according to Polish publications, the funds raised in “The Night Ride” reverted to Maja Pawłowska.

Maja Pawłowska is five years old, lives in Potok, in southeastern Poland, and suffers from cerebral palsy. The funds raised at the event were used to support the rehabilitation of the child, after having undergone surgery last year, which will allow him to recover some faculties so that she can be independent.

About 100 Polish fire trucks were present at the initiative, according to the local press, which described the hours and scope of the charity action.

conclusion

The images of the fire trucks together do not represent any action in support of the protesting Dutch farmers. They were registered in May this year, in a Polish solidarity action to raise funds for the recovery of a five-year-old boy who has cerebral palsy. The images were taken out of context and a caption was added with incorrect information that contributes to spreading a false message.
