The US Department of Defense has asked Moderna to provide it with “more than 65 million doses of the Omicron vaccine” in preparation for dealing with the Corona virus outbreak this coming fall.

The ministry said in a statement that “the deal costs about $74.1 billion,” noting that “another request has been made to Pfizer to supply 105 million doses of the same vaccine to provide enough quantity that could be used to contain any new virus outbreaks during cold periods.

The US administration expects to provide the first batches of this vaccine in early autumn, “if Omicron is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and recommended for use by the Centers for Disease Control by then.”

The authorities estimate that “their need for vaccines is around 170 million doses, given that these quantities can help them deal with any Corona virus-related health emergencies.”

It should be noted that the United States is one of the countries in the world most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with about 93 million injuries and hundreds of thousands of deaths since the pandemic began in 2020.
