Hundreds of Iraqi demonstrators, sympathizers of the Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and protesting the appointment of a new pro-Iranian prime minister, returned this Saturday, for the second time this week, to invade the Iraqi parliament.
Iraqi security forces used tear gas and sound grenades in an attempt to repel the protesters, who are protesting against the decision of the Coordination Platform Alliance, a Shiite-led coalition backed by Iran, to appoint a new prime minister.
“Protesters entered the Green Zone [a área fortificada de Bagdade que alberga os principais edifícios governamentais] and they are inside Parliament,” reported the state news agency INA, quoted by EFE.
