Anatoly Chubais, who resigned from his position as a senior adviser to Russian President Vladimir Putin, was taken to intensive care at a European hospital due to a neurological disorder.
Chubis left Russia immediately after the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began last February.
Ksenia Sobchak, a Russian TV host and friend of the Chubais family, confirmed on Telegram that she had spoken to her husband, Avdotia, who said she had Guillain-Barré syndrome, but did not say which hospital she was in, the Associated Press quoted Ksenia Sobchak as saying.
The syndrome is a rare medical condition in which the immune system attacks the nerves.
Sobchak added that Chubis’ condition was “unstable” but was quoted as saying that the situation was “moderate and stable”.
“He appears to be ill,” a source told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Some media and opponents speculate that Chubis was poisoned.
But another source, who did not want to be named, said: “I don’t think he was poisoned”, “he is still in intensive care”.
Although Chubis, 67, did not give a reason for his resignation in March, it was widely believed to have been the result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, and his resignation was the highest in a series of official resignations.
In his most recent role, Chubis was Putin’s envoy for sustainable development to international organizations. had high
