Taiwan’s official Central News Agency reported that the body of the vice president of Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense Research and Development was found in a hotel room on Saturday morning.
Ao Yang Li-shing, vice president of the military-owned Changshan National Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel room in southern Taiwan on Saturday morning, the agency said. Authorities are investigating the cause of death, he said.
Ao Yang was on a business trip to the southern region of Pingtung, the agency said, adding that he assumed the post earlier this year to oversee various missile production projects.
The military-owned organization is doubling its annual missile production capacity to nearly 500 this year as the island ramps up its combat power amid what it sees as a growing military threat to China.
