Two Palestinians killed in Israeli operation in the West Bank

Israeli armed forces killed an Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades commander and another Palestinian fighter in an operation in the West Bank on Tuesday, Israeli authorities announced.

At least 30 Palestinians were injured in the operation, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, quoted by the French news agency AFP.

The Israeli army identified the commander as Ibrahim al-Nabulsi, a senior member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fatah movement.

The soldiers “surrounded the house of the wanted man” and “there was an exchange of fire”, according to an Israeli army statement, which did not explain the reason for the search.

The operation took place in the city of Nablus, in the northern West Bank, Palestinian territory occupied by the Israeli army since 1967.

Several military vehicles blocked traffic in the city during the operation. The operation provoked a reaction from the Palestinians, who threw stones at the soldiers, according to AFP.

The Israeli army said its forces were hit by “stones and explosives” and that they “responded with dispersal means and fire.”

“Several people were injured,” the Israeli army said, without specifying the number of wounded. Our forces then left the city and there were no casualties among our ranks,” he added.

This attack came two days after the end of an Israeli military operation against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad armed movement in the Gaza Strip.

In the operation in the Gaza Strip, 46 Palestinians were killed, including several children, according to a Palestinian report cited by AFP.
