The Slovak interior ministry said in a statement that “three to four thousand people have been entering the country daily during the latest period due to the war in Ukraine,” noting that “the total number had reached 699,875 as of Sunday.”

Slovakia, with a population of about 5.5 million, is the European Union country that most often receives immigrants from Ukraine, at least temporarily, given its size.

UN statistics show that “more than 11.5 million people have been forced to leave their homes since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine”, while the data of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees recorded “about 7.3 million border crossings from Ukraine, 2 .3 million people.” At least 4.8 million refugees from Ukraine are registered across Europe, including those who first moved to neighboring countries and moved there.
