UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Dennis Brown called on Russia to provide guarantees to allow humanitarian workers to deliver critically needed relief items to civilians across the line of contact.

“The United Nations is constantly negotiating to cross the line separating the two conflicting parties over the southern and eastern regions of Ukraine,” Brown said, warning that “winter is rapidly approaching at a time when vulnerable communities in the east and the South are in need of their needs, to survive”.

“Many older people live in damaged homes, and the lack of access to gas or electricity in much of the east could be a matter of life and death if people are unable to heat their homes,” she said.

Regarding OCHA’s plans for the winter, the UN coordinator stated that “we will have to work differently and we can only assume that people stranded in war do not have what it takes to cope with the winter season, which starts early and lasts a long time. “. noting that “the war did not prevent the humanitarian community from providing assistance to the victims.”

Dennis Brown also said that “since the start of the Russian military operation, UN aid agencies have assisted more than 12 million Ukrainians,” adding that “agricultural production is moving forward thanks to the Black Sea Grain Initiative brokered by Turkey and the United States. Nations”.

It is noteworthy that millions of people have left their country due to the Russian military operation in Ukraine, with most of them heading to Poland and the EU countries.
