The incident dates back to 2018, when police officer John Grubbs found a man named Jerry Blasingame begging, so he chased him down and electrocuted him in the back, paralyzing him.
Blasingim’s attorney said the officer struck the 69-year-old in the back where he was about 10 feet away.
“Because he’s not under arrest, he can run or do whatever he wants,” said attorney Finn Johnson. It was neck.”
The camera installed in the police uniform revealed the moment of the accident and Jerry passed out after being electrocuted.
A jury found both the city of Atlanta and the officer guilty of violating Blessingam’s civil rights. They decided to give him $60 million from the Atlanta police and $40 million from Constable Grubb.
The American beggar now needs medical care during the day because he was paralyzed 4 years ago.
So far, Blassinghem’s health care costs have totaled $14 million, according to the lawyer.
