The Ukrainian Army assured this Monday that it launched an offensive on several fronts in the south of the country and that it managed to break a first line of defense of the Russian troops in the Kherson region.

“The Ukrainian armed forces have launched offensive actions on various fronts in the south,” Nataliya Humenyuk, head of the Press Center of the Joint Coordination of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, was quoted by the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper as saying.

The enemy forces are quite powerful, they have been moving there for a long time, gathering military reserves, equipment… But our previous measures, what we call fire control over enemy logistics, worked,” the spokeswoman added.

“We destroyed warehouses with ammunition, we destroyed concentrations of military equipment and we destroyed air defense installations. All this has definitely weakened the enemy,” added Humeyuk, who, however, acknowledged that “it is too early to relax.”

The Kakhovka tactical-operational group of the Ukrainian Army guaranteed, for its time, that the 109th Regiment of the self-proclaimed pro-Russian Republic of Donetsk withdrew from its positions in the Kherson region and that the Russian para-quedists, who supported you, left the battlefield.

The Ukrainian spokeswoman also issued a warning to the civilian population, saying that “if there has not been, or if there is not yet, an opportunity to evacuate cities where there may be active hostilities, people should seek shelter and wait.”

Faced with the Ukrainian attacks, the civil-military administration created by Russia in Nóvaya Kakhovka, in the Kherson region, today ordered the exit of the inhabitants to the bomb shelters, due to the increase in Ukrainian missile attacks.

We declare an evacuation. People are in the city’s air-raid shelters, because the sirens (air warning) do not stop sounding,” justified the head of the Nóvaya Kakhovka civic-military administration, Vladimir Leóntiev, quoted by the Russian agency TASS.

Leontiev added that, in the last few hours, the city, controlled by Russian troops since last March, has suffered “more than a dozen missile attacks”, but assured that the Novaya Kakhova hydroelectric plant continues to function.

“The central zone is under continuous attack. The lock channel, roads and buildings in the area were damaged, but the power plant is still working,” the Russian official said.

There are only three bridges in this area and one of them is the Nóvaya Kakhovka dam, all under almost constant fire from Ukrainian forces, who are trying to cut off supply routes for Russian troops on the right bank of the Dnieper River.
