The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will make a visit to Mozambique between September 8 and 9, initially scheduled for last January, but postponed due to the Covid- 19.
During his visit, the head of European diplomacy is scheduled to meet on Thursday with the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Verónica Macamo.
On Friday, Josep Borrell will visit the EU military training mission in Mozambique (EUTM), in Catembe, on the southern edge of Maputo, and will participate in an act of delivery of military material financed by the European Peace Support Mechanism, together with the Director General of Military Personnel of the European Union (EUMS) and head of EU Military Missions, Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean.
even on friday, Borrell will meet with the Mozambican Defense Minister, Cristóvão Chumeand will visit a cooperation project financed by the European Union.
This visit of the High Representative to Mozambique, which is part of a four-day mission to Africa —Borrell will visit Kenya on September 10 and Somalia the following day— takes place a week after the visit of the Prime Minister, António Costa. who expressed today, in Maputo, Portugal’s willingness to send more teams to help the Mozambican Armed Forces in the fight against terrorism.
