The remote Amazon Rainforest, a fever dream of lush jungle winding between rivers, has never been closer. Suddenly, it is on the front pages of the newspapers, it motivates demonstrations, it links a restless youth with an increasingly present reality: the disappearance and death of Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira, in Vale do Javari, Amazonas; last August 22, the day with the most fires in 15 years; and a few days ago, in the first debate of the presidential elections, Jair Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva in a heated exchange on the Amazon, as Flamengo-Fluminense, disputing who scored more goals in favor of the jungle.
Behind the scenes of the presidential debate, Ricardo Salles, Bolsonaro’s controversial former Environment Minister, recognized for reversing policies to preserve the Amazon, became emotional after Lula da Silva argued that his government had lower deforestation rates. For better or worse, the Amazon is finally at the center of the debate. “The current moment is very sad, not only for the Amazon rainforest, but for Brazil in general. In recent years we have observed that there has been a record deforestation in the region, which has one of the greatest biodiversities on the planet”, laments Pablo Araújo, singer and composer of Luneta Mágica, stressing that the decisions of the former minister of the environment it had a particular impact in the city of the band, Manaus, capital of the Amazon. “Our role is to reflect on the current moment, interpreting the scenario critically. All the elements, both in the language and in the sound aesthetics of the album, were incorporated with the aim of creating this particular universe, translating the forest as that complex living organism that sustains us”.

Here we bring together some musical proposals for 2022 that exalt the Amazonian culture, taking up the ancient rituals of war with song and dance. In front of the platoon in the country of the amazons, the new album by Luneta Mágica. “With the current socio-political scenario”, argues Daniel Freire —bassist, keyboardist and whatever it takes—, we understood that it was time to include the voice and cultural manifestation of Amazonian artists, whose way of life is directly connected to nature. Amazon, the city and its contradictions and the cultural heritage manifested in its various levels”.
