The National Hurricane Center said the hurricane formed over the Pacific Ocean about 340 kilometers southwest of the edge of the Baja California Peninsula, where the coastal resort of Cabo San Lucas is located.

The center added that despite expectations that the intensity of the hurricane will begin to decrease by Thursday, Kai is expected to remain strong as it passes near the central west coast of Baja California.

Three Mexican airlines have said in a statement that Hurricane Key has led to the cancellation of domestic flights to the popular tourist area of ​​Los Cabos.

The center added that Baja California’s central west coast is expected to be hit by a hurricane today Thursday and that severe weather warnings are currently in place for the region with heavy rain expected.

Over the weekend, Hurricane Kay killed three people in the state of Guerrero and the Pacific port of Acapulco, and destroyed homes.
