Iranian state television reported, quoting Ramadan Zirahi, Commander of the 2nd District Guards Fleet, that “Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy stopped a foreign ship with 757,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the waters of the Persian Gulf.”

He explained that “seven crew members, who are foreigners, have been arrested and turned over to the judicial authorities”, noting that the ship, which was carrying a shipment of diesel fuel, which intends to “transport and deliver to other countries, was confiscated at a distance of 60 miles ( 96 kilometers) off the coast of Iran.

Zirahi reiterated that the fight against smuggling, “especially organized fuel smuggling, is one of the priorities of the Revolutionary Guard Navy to support local production and the dynamism of the national economy.”

Iranian forces often announce the arrest of small ships and boats smuggling fuel in the Persian Gulf region, through which most of the world’s oil production passes.
