Recently, local media criticized the behavior of some members of the “Morality Police” on the streets, who have the authority to enter public places to ensure that the rules are enforced.

Police said Amini fell ill while in custody with other women arrested by the Morality Police, which since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution have enforced strict rules requiring women to cover their hair and wear loose-fitting clothing. Is.

Hossein Rahimi, the head of the Greater Tehran Police, criticized what he considers “unscrupulous accusations” against the Iranian police for the death of Amini, emphasizing that he was not injured and that the police did “everything” to keep him alive.

In a statement published by Fars news agency, Rahimi added: “This incident is unfortunate for us and we hope to never witness such incidents.”

Police showed footage of a woman named Amini talking to a man who appeared to be checking part of her clothing, then the woman put her hands on her head and fell to the ground.

But Amini’s father confirmed to the pro-reform news website “Emtada” on Sunday that his daughter had no health problems and her legs were bruised, and he held the police responsible for her death.

According to Amini’s father, the police took two hours to take him to the hospital and “if he had arrived earlier, he would not have died.”

This official added: America demands accountability for the murder of this young woman after she was arrested a few days ago in Tehran.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan wrote on Twitter on Friday: “We are deeply concerned about the death of Mehsa Amini, who was allegedly beaten in the custody of Iran’s Moral Police.”

He added: “His death is unforgivable. We will continue our efforts to hold the Iranian authorities accountable for such human rights violations.”
