Azores. PS wants to hear from the president of SATA about the “aggravation of accounts” of the company

PS/Azores requested this Monday an urgent hearing of the secretary of Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructures of the government of the Azores and of the president of SATA in the Regional Assembly, due to the “worsening of the accounts” of the airline.

In a statement, the socialists advance that they have submitted a request for an “urgent hearing” in the Economic Commission of the Azores parliament of the regional secretary Berta Cabral and the president of the board of directors of SATA, Luís Rodrigues, on the “worsening of company accounts.

The Socialists refer to the data for the first semester of Azores Airlines (a group company in charge of connections between the archipelago and abroad), “which show a worsening of losses from 36.6 to 47.7 million euros, if it is compared to the first half of 2021.”

The PS warns that these data “contradict the news that was made public that the company would be in recovery” and could “put into question” the “fulfillment” of the SATA restructuring plan.

According to the party, the “request was approved by a majority, despite the negative votes of the PSD and CDS-PP.”

On Friday, BE/Açores also warned that the accounts of the airline SATA show “a loss of 47.7 million euros related to Azores Airlines” and that “there was a significant decrease in the positive results of SATA Air Açores”.

On August 1, it was announced that the SATA group had consolidated revenues of 107.9 million euros in the first half, an increase of 51.4% compared to the same period of 2021 and 15.2% compared to the same period of 2019.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, the Azorean airline reported that this value “becomes the best first semester in terms of income since there are consolidated records.”

The numbers indicate “the recovery of post-pandemic traffic” from covid-19 and, consequently, the “recovery of tourist activity, essential for the Autonomous Region of the Azores”, the company stressed at the time.

The group, which includes SATA Air Açores (responsible for air connections between the nine islands) and Azores Airlines (connections to and from the archipelago), also revealed that the number of passengers carried by the companies “doubled compared to the first half of last year. year”. of 2021 and was only 2.3% below the first half of 2019″.
