The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the death rate from Covid-19 infection has decreased significantly over the past period, and now the situation is better than ever, explaining that humanity needs several years to defeat COVID forever -19.

At a press conference, he pointed out that “the number of deaths from Covid-19 does not exceed 10 percent from the peak in January 2021, we are currently in a better situation than ever,” adding: “However, the spread of the virus continues, and the emerging coronavirus has changed, which could lead to a more dangerous mutant.”

There is “a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel” in the fight against COVID-19, Ghebreyesus said. But humanity has a long way to go and the tunnel is still dark with many obstacles.

According to the statistics of the organization, between November 22 and 28 last year, about 9,800 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded in the world. Now the number of deaths due to the emerging coronavirus in a week has decreased in all regions of the world – in the eastern Mediterranean by 46 percent, and in Africa and the Western Pacific regions by 27 percent. It should be noted that the official number of infected “Covid-19” in the world today has reached 613 million, of which 6.5 million have died.
