Indonesian police said on Saturday that 129 people were killed and 180 injured in a riot after a derby match at a stadium in East Java.
This information confirms that Arima FC fans clashed with Javanese Persibaya Surabaya fans after Arima’s 3-2 defeat in a match held in Malang Regency, Java.
Officials also explained that the riot occurred when thousands of Arima fans stormed the pitch after their team’s defeat, while Percy Baya’s players immediately left the pitch.
However, many Arima players who were still on the field were also attacked.
The police added that most of the dead were due to crowding of fans during the match.
