Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov on Saturday called on Russia to use low-yield nuclear weapons in its military operations in Ukraine.
With the invitation of Kadyrov, an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, speculation increased that Russia might use tactical nuclear weapons in the Ukraine war, particularly in the Battle of Liman, which was captured by Ukrainian forces.
Russia has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, including low-yield tactical weapons ready for use against hostile armies.
According to the Moscow Arms Control Organization, Moscow has about 2,000 tactical nuclear weapons stored in military facilities in various regions of Russia.
“It is possible that tactical nuclear strikes would target sites along the front line where there are large numbers of troops and equipment, as well as command centers and critical infrastructure,” said Vadim Skipitsky, a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence.
Justin Prank, a military expert at Britain’s Institute for Military Studies, explained that tactical nuclear warheads “will only be a deterrent, not an annihilator,” because the explosive power of a bomb or missile is between 10 and 30 kilotons, but may lead to To:
• Death of 30 thousand people.
• 60 thousand injured.
• Radiant circle up to 1050 meters.
• Explosion circle of 150 meters.
• Destruction power up to 1500 meters.
• Power of thermal radiation up to 1530 meters.
• The light of the explosion can be seen up to a distance of 4 kilometers and 260 meters.
Nuclear experts believe that Moscow’s threats to use this type of weapon are only to intimidate and neutralize any attempt by NATO to intervene in the Ukrainian war.
According to the military website Warzone, Russia uses nuclear force as an escalation tactic for deterrence if it senses a strong threat to its territory, they added.
According to the British newspaper The Sun, recent satellite images show the unusual presence of Russian Tu-160 and Tu-95 strategic bombers carrying tactical nuclear warheads at Olinya Air Base.
Mina Adel, a researcher of military affairs, stated to “Sky News Arabic” the reason for the presence of these bombers in the borders of Finland as follows:
• His habit of flying from this region to approach the skies of all European countries throughout the year to play with them.
• Russia’s message to NATO countries.
• It may support Russia’s northern front in Kharkiv after the development of events and the invasion of Ukrainian forces into the strategic city of Liman.
