Video: Gas bombs stop the French league game

A fan riot caused one of the French football league matches to be temporarily suspended, only to be resumed later.

In a match held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Toulouse Municipal Stadium, Toulouse defeated their guest Montpellier 4-2 for the ninth time in Ligue 1.

A video clip published on the social networking site “Twitter” shows the crowd throwing projectiles and tear gas towards the green rectangle.

This left the players and many fans in the stands feeling suffocated, while referee Jeremy Benard stopped play and the timer hit 57 minutes.

The referee asked the players to return to the dressing room for their own safety, to resume the game 20 minutes after the stoppage, after the smoke was blown.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after the humanitarian disaster in Indonesia, which claimed the lives of 125 fans, according to official figures released by Indonesian authorities.

About 3,000 fans rushed to the “Kangorohan” stadium in Melang city in protest against their team’s 2-3 defeat of their team, Arima Persebaya, against their host, Persebaya Surabaya, on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The tragedy shocked international, continental and national federations around the world, while Arab and foreign clubs rushed to express solidarity and sympathy with the families of the victims.

In the details of the French league game, the visiting team was the first to open the goal after 7 minutes of the start by Nicolas Koza.

The host responded to Montpellier’s goal with four goals from Stein Springs, Zakaria Abu Khalil Moroccan, Fars Chibi and Bresht Degagiri in the 18th, 24th, 31st and 48th minutes.

The guests were able to reduce the difference with the goal of Eli Vahi who scored in the 68th minute against Toulouse.

With this result, Toulouse moved up to 11 points in 12th place, while Montpellier’s balance in 10th place was 12 points.

Paris Saint-Germain are at the top of the French league table with 25 points, two points behind rivals Marseille in second place.
