A resolution that promotes cooperation between the United Nations (UN) and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) was approved by consensus at the organization’s General Assembly, official sources reported on Tuesday.

In total, 11 draft resolutions promoting United Nations cooperation with various regional and international organizations, including the CPLP, were approved on Monday.

Angola’s permanent representative to the UN, Maria de Jesus dos Reis Ferreira, spoke on behalf of the CPLP, presenting a draft resolution entitled “Cooperation between the United Nations and the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries”.

According to the UN, the Angolan diplomat said that the CPLP is a space united by the common use of the Portuguese language, made up of more than 300 million people on four continents, and explained that the project highlights the relevance of the Portuguese language in the international contexts. relations.

Maria de Jesus dos Reis Ferreira also highlighted the political importance and commitment of the community to promote the use of the language in international and regional organizations.

The project presented also illustrated the work done by the community and highlighted the adoption of its new vision.

The text also stressed the importance of partnership and cooperation between the United Nations and other relevant organizations, including the CPLP, to enhance coordination and cooperation in peacekeeping.

In the session, the General Assembly “acknowledged with appreciation”, among other points, “the contribution of the members of the CPLP to international peace and security in their performance as non-permanent members of the Security Council, as well as in the Commission for the Consolidation of Peace and its specific country scenarios”.

The CPLP is made up of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe, and East Timor.
