“Hostile” countries reduced Russian diplomatic representation to a minimum, regrets Moscow

The Russian government regretted this Sunday that “hostile” countries, mainly from the European Union (EU), have reduced the Russian diplomatic presence to a minimum, describing the situation as “absurd.”

“We only have one or two diplomats in some countries”Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency, stressing that it was not Moscow that began to break relations with these countries, which she did not name.

In May, the Russian government announced the expulsion of 34 French diplomats in response to what it deemed a “provocative and unjustified” decision by Paris to declare 41 Russian diplomatic staff “persona non grata” in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

In April, Germany had already done the same with another 40 employees of the Russian embassy and consulates, later expelling them for “working every day” against the “cohesion” of society, according to the argument of the head of German diplomacy, Annalena Baerbock.

Two examples that show that diplomatic representation in Russia has been reduced in recent months as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been condemned by the European Union and a large part of the international community.
