The European Newspaper Awards, which recognize the best in European newspaper design, honored the Observer in two Online Innovation categories: Films and Media Narrative.
The two multimedia awards focus on different works. The film award was given to the video “The attack (that went wrong) of the FP-25 in Malveira: how it happened”, inserted in the report “The bombs, the bullets and the ‘enemies to be demolished'”, from the series ” The years take FP25”, by Tânia Pereirinha, Sónia Simões, Ana Moreira and Diogo Casinha.

How trends were made and influential people paid users turned the app into a propaganda organ for Putin” (by Tânia Pereirinha, Miguel Feraso Cabral, Ana Moreira and Larisa Tovmasyan), and “Kharkiv: See from the inside what the second largest Ukrainian city was like after the destruction” (by Pedro Jorge Castro, João Porfírio and Miguel Feraso Cabral).

The 24th edition of the awards had the participation of 138 newspapers from 22 European countries. More than 4,000 entries were submitted across the contest’s 19 categories, in what is one of the largest contests in design of newspapers in the world. The Grand Prix for the best newspapers of the year went to publications from Norway, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The prizes were awarded by a group of 15 judges, from nine countries (including Portugal). The award ceremony is scheduled for June 21-22, 2023 and will take place in Vienna, Austria.????????
The European Newspaper Awards were created in 1999 by the German newspaper graphic designer and researcher Norbert Küpper, and aim to “improve the exchange of information on concepts and design of printed and online newspapers”, distinguishing the best works carried out in this area.
