In an interview on CBS’s Sunday Morning show, Neil Diamond, now 82, explained that for “the first year or two” it was a denial of Parkinson’s diseasewho was diagnosed in 2018. The singer has had to stop touring since then, although he continues to regularly visit his music studio in Los Angeles.

For the musician, coming to terms with Parkinson’s remains a work in progress. “Okay, these are the cards that God has dealt me, and I have to make the best of them, and I am,” said the New York singer.

“In a way, a calm moved to the hurricane of my life, and things got quieter, as quiet as this recording studio,” said Neil Diamond. “And I like this. I found that I like myself better. I am kinder to people and kinder to myself.. And the music goes on, and it will go on long after I’m gone.”

More than 50 years of career in a love for music with ups and downs

Neil Diamond’s own relationship with music was one of the topics covered during the interview. Asked if he still needs to sing, the musician explained that he still enjoys doing it, it’s been his job for “more than 50 years”. For Neil Diamond, singing “is as if all the systems of the body and mind are working as one.”

I’ve had a pretty good life, and the thing is, I I couldn’t always look back and be comfortable with it., smile and feel that it was worth it,” he said. “I think good things are starting to come into my life.”

The Sunday Morning interview took place after the Broadway premiere of “A Beautiful Noise,” a biopic about the life of Neil Diamond. For CBS, the musician said that I always wanted to do a musicaland who, during the development of the play, told the producers and scriptwriters that he wanted to portray the high and low points of his life.

“This show was part of my psychotherapy,” said the New York singer. “And she hurt me. I didn’t like looking at myself in many of the scenes..”
