The National Republican Army (NRA), a Russian underground militia that opposes the Kremlin, on Tuesday claimed responsibility for the bombing that killed Russian military blogger Vladen Tatarsky on Sunday.
The confirmation appeared in a post on the NRA Telegram channel. “[O ataque] attacked a group of activists [Cyber Front] Z, in particular the notorious butcher, propagandist, and war criminal Maxim Fomim, better known as Vladen Tatarsky.”
The organization also mentions that the attack “was prepared and executed by us independently”, emphasizing that they did not receive help from foreign countries, contrary to the accusations of the Kremlin, which blamed Ukraine. The NRA also says that the attack did not affect civilians and that “all those who suffered the attack actively support the war” in Ukraine.

This is not the first attack in which the organization has been involved. According to Novaya Gazeta, Ilya Ponomarev, a former Russian policeman who is now an ally of Ukraine, claimed in 2022 that the NRA was behind the murder of Daria Dugina, the daughter of Russian ideologue Alexander Dugin. The United States believes that it was Ukraine that ordered the attack on the daughter of the well-known Russian nationalist.
In addition to killing Tatarsky, Sunday’s explosion at a St. Petersburg cafe hosting an event by the Cyber Front Z propaganda group injured at least 40 people. Vladimir Putin posthumously decorated the dead military blogger.
Daria Trepova, an anti-war activist, was arrested on suspicion of being the author of the crime, and this Tuesday she was formally charged. The Russian Anti-Terrorism Committee claims that the Ukrainian Special Services and Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation were behind the attack.
