During his visit to South Korea, António Costa signed a cooperation agreement with third countries with the Prime Minister of the Asian country that promotes economic, social and environmental development.
Portugal and South Korea signed a memorandum on Wednesday for the formation of associations in third countries, to promote sustainable development strategies, and an agreement for the dissemination and teaching of the Portuguese language.
These two legal instruments were signed in the presence of the prime ministers of portugalAntonio Costa, and South KoreaHan Duck-soo, after a meeting between the two at the headquarters of the South Korean executive, in Seoul.
On behalf of the Portuguese Executive, the agreements were signed by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André.
The memorandum of understanding between Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Languages and the Korean Agency for International Cooperation (KOICA) on triangular cooperation in third countries provides for the establishment of “principles and guidelines based on which create lines of work for an effective response to development challenges“.
The two countries propose to develop a coordinated strategy “of the respective financial, technical and human resources, promoting the economic, social and environmental development partner countries and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
“The cooperation activities will touch areas such as education, health and digitization“, is added in the text of the memorandum of understanding.
The governments of both countries also signed a protocol between Camões and the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, located in Seoul, for the placement of a Portuguese Language and Culture Lecturer.
