The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that it had launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from a military base in the south of the country, located less than 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
“On April 11, 2023, a combat team from the Strategic Missile Forces successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from a mobile ground-based missile system” at the Kapustin Yar base in the Astrakhan region, the statement read.

The ministry indicated that the purpose of the launch was test advanced combat equipmentconfirm the correctness of the flight path design and technical solutions used in the development of new missile systems.
The same note refers to the fact that “the launch was completed in its entirety”, after the missile, launched next to the Caspian Sea, landed or struck, in a military training camp in Sary Shagan, in Cazaquistão, about three thousand kilometers away.
