The president of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, affirmed this Thursday in Johannesburg that the country wants to cooperate with the BRICS countries and that it intends to access the bank’s funds from that multilateral organization.

Referring to the New Development Bank of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), he stressed “that it should reduce the infrastructure deficit on the African continent”: “These infrastructures are very important to promote economic progress, which could generate well-being for Mozambicans”.
Filipe Nyusi participated this Thursday, in Johannesburg, in the “BRICS Plus Dialogue” and “BRICS Outreach” initiative, within the framework of that summit.
By joining these dialogues, Mozambique does so with the conviction that the BRICS can be another excellent way to share interests and efforts through concrete actionsproviding mutual benefits in an environment of complementarity and solidarity that characterizes the global South in various issues of structuring the interests of our States”, explained the President.
He also recognized that “the BRICS cooperation initiative with non-BRICS countries such as Mozambique, combined with its expansion, constitutes added value for the implementation of initiatives Africans” for the development of the continent.
These advances will only be possible with peace and stability, a close fight against terrorism and maritime piracy on the African continent and in the world, based on multilateral forums with the active participation of less developed countries, in accordance with the dictates of law international and uninfluenced by geopolitical rivalries”, he added.
In his speech, Filipe Nyusi stated that it is “urgent” to adopt “a just energy transition, which allows the capitalization of economic potential of African countries with develop energy resources that will undoubtedly play a key role in global energy security in the coming decades.”
He also defended “industrialization through the consolidation of regional value chains of various products”, based on “the construction of infrastructures that connect the African continent to promote the continental free trade zone”.
“It highlights the importance of processing strategic agricultural products and minerals in our countries, combining resources from various countries for economic gain, economies of scale and access to energy on viable conditions, where Mozambique should play an important role in view of the potential of its energy matrix and strategic geographic location”, he also pointed out.
