The United States, the United Kingdom and NATO believe that, in recent weeks, Ukrainian troops have made “tangible progress” and are “gradually gaining ground” during the counteroffensive.
The Ukrainian counteroffensive, which began in early June, seems to be working, mainly on the southern front. At least this is the conviction of several Western leaders, who have praised the recent actions of Ukrainian troops, completely discarding the idea of slowness and strategic errors.
Early this morning, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Ukrainian troops are “exceeding expectations.” “They are advancing, perhaps not as much as we expected, but little by little they are gaining ground”said the person in charge, who indicated that “hundreds of meters per day” are conquered. “This means that when the Ukrainians gain ground, the Russians lose it.”
In the afternoon, a spokesman for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak rejected the claim that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is being slow. “What is clear is that the Ukrainian military is doing an incredible job against a much larger army and should be commended for its efforts.”
Furthermore, the Downing Street spokesperson stressed that the counteroffensive is a test “of the bravery of the Ukrainian armed forces and the support they received from around the worldincluding that of the United Kingdom.”
Likewise, the deputy spokesperson for the Pentagon, Sabrina Singh, praised the performance of kyiv’s troops on Thursday. “Ukrainians are extremely effective on the battlefield. “We saw how progress is being made in the counteroffensive,” indicated.
From the United States of America (USA), Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, also highlighted the good results of Ukraine. Recalling that Kiev’s troops knew that military operations “were going to be difficult,” the head of American diplomacy stressed that it was possible to observe “tangible progress in recent weeks.”
In an interview with NBC, Antony Blinken said the Russians had “a lot of time to prepare for the counteroffensive.” “They placed mines and defensive fortifications,” he stressed, noting, however, that the Ukrainians are “working” to combat them and have the “determination” and “desire” to reconquer the places lost to Russia.
