Congress, Pentagon, White House. In just a few hours, the president of Ukraine was in the main political and military bodies of the United States of America (USA). It was not yet seven in the morning (another five hours in Lisbon) and Volodymyr Zelensky was already in Washington. The result of this day with such an intense agenda? In concrete terms, a new military package valued at 325 million dollars (around 305 million euros).
Two of the objectives with which Volodymyr Zelensky left for Washington ended up not being fully realized. one was a Charm operation to captivate the Republican Party. increasingly skeptical about continued support for Ukraine, in order to convince its members to give the green light to a major aid package valued at 24 billion dollars (approximately 21 billion euros).
On this topic, the results were limited. Although the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, described the meeting with the Ukrainian head of state as “productive” and “good,” the Republican did not allow Volodymyr Zelenksy to speak in Congress. justifying it with lack of time and a complicated legislative week. And he preferred not to commit to giving a response to the $24 billion aid package.
