Madonna gave a free concert on Copacabana beach this Saturday night and transformed the beach of Rio de Janeiro into a huge dance floor with more than one and a half million people.

Madonna ended her “Celebration Tour” with a free concert on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. The public took advantage and came en masse, since the beach received more than one and a half million people to see the diva’s show this Saturday night.

An estimated 1.6 million people attended the concert, according to G1, which cited the city’s tourism agency. This figure is more than ten times higher than Madonna’s record, recorded in Paris, when, in 1987, 130,000 people attended the concert at the Parc de Sceaux. Madonna’s official website ranked the show as the most important of the singer’s four-decade career.

The “Celebration Tour” celebrated the artist’s 40-year career and was her first retrospective. It began in October, in London, and passed through Portugal with two concerts at the Altice Arena, in Lisbon, on November 6 and 7.

Madonna’s celebration of the inescapable law

The “Queen of Pop” kicked off the show with the 1998 hit “Nothing Really Matters.” Huge cheers erupted from the crowd, packed against the security barriers, as others watched in celebration from brightly lit apartments and hotels overlooking the beach.

Helicopters and drones flew over the area and speedboats and sailboats anchored on the beach along the bay.

“Here we are, in the most beautiful place in the world,” Madonna told the crowd. Pointing to the view of the sea, mountains and the statue of Christ the Redeemer in front of the city, she added: “This place is magical.”

Madonna performed big hits including “Like a Virgin” and “Hung Up.”

In the intro to “Like A Prayer,” she completely covered her face with a black veil and held a rosary in her hands.

The singer, 65, paid a moving tribute to “all the bright lights” who died of AIDS, as she sang “Live to Tell”, with black and white photographs of people suffering from the disease, blinking from behind.

She was later accompanied on stage by Brazilian artists Anita and Pabllo Vittar.

Madonna shared the video on her Instagram account and DJ Diplo, who performed at the concert, also posted a view of the arena introduced by Anitta.

Rio spent the last few days preparing for the performance. In recent days, the excitement was evident, with fans gathering in front of the imposing Copacabana Palace hotel, facing the sea, in the hope of catching a glimpse of the pop star.

During sound checks on the stage set up in front of the hotel, they danced in the sand and on Saturday at noon they gathered in front of the hotel, with signs and flags.
